A Benefit For Hoops Sagrado

Hosted by

On Wednesday, May 22nd, please join us as we present one of the first US screenings of award-winning documentary Doin' It In The Park with all proceeds to benefit local DC non-profit Hoops Sagrado.  Following the screening, ESPN's own Tony Reali (Around the Horn, Pardon the Interruption) will host a Q and A with directors Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau!

Doin' It In The Park lovingly uncovers the pick-up ball movement through the voices of playground legends, NBA athletes, and most importantly the common man and woman: those who loyally look forward to experiencing the raw energy of the game at their local outdoor court.

Over the course of 75 hot summer days, co-directors Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau visited 180 basketball courts throughout NYC’s five boroughs.  On bicycles with cameras and a ball in their backpacks, they provide an unprecedented perspective on America’s most popular, accessible, and free recreation which has influenced an international lifestyle.

Your attendance will be supporting Hoops Sagrado, a Washington, D.C.-based youth leadership and development nonprofit organization that gives at-risk youth from the D.C.-area a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend part of the summer in the highlands of Guatemala.  Using basketball as the common thread, the DC youth learn another language and culture, teach their Mayan indigenous peers basketball skills, develop their sense of self, and gain a new perspective on life.
